Apparently I slightly misinterpreted the course overview assignment, and already gave a brief introduction there. Oops! Nevertheless, I will go ahead and give a more thorough introduction here. My name is Austin Clanton, I am 21 years old, and a junior in chemical/biomedical engineering: pre-med. I have 3 younger siblings and a girlfriend of almost 4 years, who is actually taking this course with me (Taylor Haddad). Below, you will find a picture of my family with me at the far right:

I have been at OU for my entire college career and have really enjoyed the experience. In my spare time, I like to play basketball and occasionally play videogames with my roommates. This summer, I turned 21and went on a trip to Las Vegas with my girlfriend's family. We had a great time and managed to make it back to Oklahoma without losing all of our money! Taylor and I enjoyed the Jersey Boys show and playing blackjack. We ate at several great restaurants and found some free entertainment in watching all of the interesting people (and let me tell you, there are a ton of interesting people that are willing to do almost anything to earn money from people walking along the streets).

Some of the other courses that I am taking this semester are Biochemistry, Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer 2, Thermodynamics, and Numerical Methods. Needless to say, I am looking forward to this class as a break from all of the other math and science courses that I am enrolled in. Unfortunately, I do not consider myself to be the most creative writer, so I also hope to improve on that skill through this course. I hope to have a great semester, and am looking forward to getting to know the rest of you!
Hey, Austin! It's great to have you in our class and I look forward to reading more of your posts throughout the semester. I'm a junior as well and have several chemical engineering friends so I definitely admire all the difficult coursework that you're taking and have taken thus far. I already took biochem and hope you enjoy it as much as I did- it's really fun! Good luck with your classes this semester!

ReplyDeleteHey, Austin! I think it’s really cool that you got to go to Las Vegas this summer. Unfortunately, I just had to stay at home due to the classes and work, but my friends and I plan on going once all of us turn 21. I see that your taking biochemistry this semester. It is a really interesting class as long as you keep up with the material. That class requires a lot of memorization and if you wait till the last minute it can get a little hard, but otherwise it is really fun and interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's cool that you and your girlfriend are both taking this course at the same time, hopefully you can help each other out. Your trip to Las Vegas sounds really fun! I've never been. I'm turning 21 in just a couple weeks, but of course I'll be in the middle of classes and schoolwork :(.
ReplyDeleteYikes, I am definitely not a math/science person, so if I was taking your classes I would want a break too! Hopefully you will enjoy this class and the opportunity to do something a bit different.
I just read Taylor's Introduction a little bit ago, Austin, so I am getting a double dose of the Las Vegas vacation - it sounds like so much fun! And I can see that this class is definitely the "one of these things is not like the other" in your class schedule this semester, ha ha... and I hope it will be fun for just that reason! Plus you and Taylor can bounce story ideas back and forth with each other: creativity is an EXPONENTIAL power, so the two of you together would be four times as creative... at least! Enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Austin! I'm really curious as to why you decided to take this class in particular, as it seems to be such a big departure from all of your other courses. Then again, I have a few friends who are chemical engineering majors, and know that a course outside of math and the sciences can be a big relief. I really enjoyed your story for week two, and while there were a few areas that could use improvement, I think you are well on your way to becoming a great creative writer! Hope you enjoy your semester!
ReplyDeleteAustin,
ReplyDeleteIt really sounds like you have a busy semester! Good luck to you! This class will keep you well rounded! Which in the point of an upper division humanity course! I will be going to Las Vegas for the first time over winter break! I turn 21 in November and so my family is taking me a month later! I can't wait!
Austin,
ReplyDeleteI hope you the best in your endeavors. It sounds as though you're on track to becoming very successful and pursuing a pretty interesting career. From what I have read so far you seem to be a pretty good writer, maybe there's a side career there, who knows. Well dude, I hope the best for you and hopefully I'll hear from you on here again.
Hey Austin, good to make your acquaintance. It seems there's a lot of STEM folks enrolled in this course, which makes more and more sense as I think about it. You might know my good friend Madi Cain, as she's also in some of the same classes as you. She's a small brunette, but don't let her looks fool you. She's a bad ass.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your trip to Vegas, man. I'm a huge fight fan (boxing, kickboxing, MMA), and I would love to take a trip to the desert sometime and watch a card live. It's good that you didn't lose too much of your money. I'm afraid of how much I might lose (or win) betting on the outcome of fights. Luckily sports betting is illegal in Oklahoma. ;P
Good luck in the class, bud. Cheers!
Hey Austin, it's nice to meet you. Vegas is an awesome choice for a birthday trip. I went there when my brother (who's six years older than me) turned 21 so I couldn't do much, but it was still a lot of fun. I hope to go there again sometime soon. I hope this class ends up being a nice break from your other classes. I'd be so stressed in those classes! The only thing I'm actually good at though is creative writing. Oh well, good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Austin, it was nice to red your introduction and I have to agree with you about taking other courses over the math courses that we have to take as engineers. But still, the classes you listed are super hard and not fun at all especially thermodynamics. I absolutely hated thermo. The classes were a god change from the conceptual math though. Other than that I also like to play basketball a lot. It was nice meeting you and I hope to be reading more of your posts in the future.
ReplyDeleteHi Austin! Great introduction! It must be pretty fun to take such a different course from your other very intense classes! I wish you all the best! It's so cool you got to go to Las Vegas! I think I remember reading Taylor's intro-- it's so cool that you're taking the class together! Independent courses are fun, but it's even better to be taking it with someone you know. Your writing it great! Looking forward to reading more of your projects.
ReplyDeleteHey Austin! Really nice to meet you. I am also a pre-medical student and am in the process of applying to medical school now. I also went to Vegas this summer and played blackjack and went to see Jersey Boys. I really liked Jersey Boys a lot. I somehow managed to leave Vegas with more money than I went there with, but that's just because I got really lucky! It was nice to meet you, I hope you have a good semester and wish you luck applying to medical school.
ReplyDeleteHi Austin! It is very nice to meet you, for I am also a junior too! Maybe not as academically inclined as you, but I find your drive into such a difficult major really inspiring! I have to say, I am jealous of the big family you have, it must be a very fulfilling but also sometimes overwhelming feeling going home for holidays. I hope the rest of the semester goes well for you!
ReplyDeleteHey Austin! So I'd say I already know you pretty well, but I thought I would come see what you said in your introduction! I'm glad you had a good time in Vegas with my family! I hope you have been enjoying this class so far, especially since I recommended it! I've really enjoyed taking the class with you and being able to bounce ideas off of each other! I feel like it has definitely helped me be more creative.
ReplyDeleteAustin, you seem like a super hardworking yet a fun boy! If I am not right I think you were in my Genetics class with your girlfriend as well. Not to sound creepy but I was looking at your picture with your girlfriend and you guys looked familiar. This is definitely a great introduction about you. I agree this class is more like a breeze compared to those science classes. Great to know you!
ReplyDeleteHello Austin, nice to meet you. I am also a pre-med student, but I'm majoring in biochemistry. I also have trouble with creative writing, so I feel your pain there. I've always wanted to go to Las Vegas, I bet you had a great time. Good luck studying for the MCAT and applying to medical schools!
ReplyDeleteHi Austin! It's nice to meet you! I think it is awesome that you and your girlfriend have been together for so long! I have the same feelings as you about this class, I am definitely looking to improve my writing skills and work on my creativity. I think I had read about your vegas trip on your girlfriends introduction, and it sounded awesome! I've been there once before, but I was younger so I didn't exactly get to experience all of vegas! I look forward to going there again in the future!
ReplyDeleteHey Austin! Nice to meet you! I am also a pre-med science major! I took biochemistry this past summer and it was pretty tough then so I can only imagine how much tougher it is during the regular school year! Also all your other classes seem extremely tough as well. I don't think I could handle such a big plate, but much respect to you for doing it! Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Austin, it is great to meet you. That is so funny that you and your girlfriend are taking this course together. I bet it is fun to comment on each others things. Your major sounds very challenging. Good for you though! So it sounds like based on your classes, you are a junior? I was a chem e major early on in my career so I remember the course sheets. Anyways, good luck!
